Experience Vienna at its most beautiful: Every winter, the city’s pretty squares turn into magical Christmas markets illuminated by twinkling lights and filled with the scent of sizzling sausages, delicious sweet treats and spiced mulled wine. During the day, your host will take you around pretty cobblestone lanes and show you the highlights of Vienna, including the Gothic grandeur of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the historic Prater and the splendour of the Hofburg Imperial Palace.

Accommodation:

We will be staying at the charming 4-star City Central Hotel, conveniently located within a short walking distance of the city centre. Our Programme:

We have put together a sightseeing programme with several options to accommodate all of our solo travellers’ tastes and interests:

Day 1 – Arrival: Transfer by private taxi to your hotel. Check-in and time to relax and unpack. Short walk into the city centre with stops at a couple of arty Christmas markets, followed by dinner in an authentic Austrian restaurant.

Day 2: Leisurely walk to the impressive St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the most enduring symbol of Vienna. We continue through the many cobblestone lanes and roads to the Hofburg, once the residence of the Habsburg dynasty, and on to the Museum Quarter. To round off the day, we will visit the famous Christmas market at the town hall square.

Optional: There will be free time for museums, galleries or the famous Kärntner or Graben streets, with their numerous boutiques and designer shops and famous Viennese cafés along the way.

Day 3: Free morning to visit either the Belvedere castle with its world-famous Klimt exhibition or Vienna’s amusement park, the historic Prater, with its much-loved Ferris Wheel offering beautiful views across the city, or to enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride to take in the old-world charm of the city.

In the afternoon, we will enjoy a wine tasting of the very best Austrian red and white wines in an authentic vineyard’s tavern, followed by dinner. For those who still have the energy, we can finish off the evening at one of the Christmas markets or a typical Viennese bar.

Vienna, the capital of Austria:

Vienna is the capital of Austria, located along the banks of the River Danube at the very heart of Europe. It has 1.8 million inhabitants, is rich in history and culture, and boasts an impressive number of palaces and monuments due to the centuries’ long reign of the Habsburg monarchy. Vienna is also known as the ‘City of Music’, as it has been home to vastly influential composers over the years, notably Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss and many others. The city has a proud musical heritage, and remains a Mecca for classical musicians today.

Vienna is one of the largest capital cities in Europe, and has been voted among the world’s top three ‘best places to live’ for the last 7 years in a row. Vienna is also the only city in Europe that produces its own wine. Its popular ‘Heurige’ inns that serve locally-produced wines and traditional Austrian dishes in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, are perfect for an evening out with friends. Vienna is also called the ‘City of Dreams’ thanks to the legacy of one of its most famous sons, Sigmund Freud, who had a vast cultural impact on the city in his lifetime and ensured Vienna would always be known as the birthplace of psychotherapy. Vienna is also famed for its traditional cafés, glamorous balls, the Spanish Riding School, art deco architecture. Vienna is a breathtaking experience – quite simply, one of the cities we should all have seen at least once in life.

Vienna is a new destination in our solo holiday programme. Please see below the testimonials from our last solo trip - our solo ski holiday to Schladming, Austria, in March 2017.

"Being the first SPOH ski trip without our children I was a little bit apprehensive before the holiday. The size of the group was perfect, not too small and not too large that the group gets divided. The first couple of days was strange as I missed the noise of the children but after that it was one of the best SPOH holidays I have been on. All the adults were nice and with different skiing ability. I will most likely book this trip again!"

"SPoH know how to put a holiday together. They make sensible and wise choices regarding location, hotels and facilities. Sandra, our host, made every effort possible to ensure that each and everyone of our needs were catered for which is not easy. Unlike some companies which just meet and greet you in the morning and evening, SPoH stay with you helping you to find the best bits and get the most out of your holiday. It requires great skill, patience, judgement and careful handling to manage a group of unknowns especially on a ski slope but Sandra made it look easy. Thank you for a wonderful time. I look forward to travelling with you again."

"A great way to meet other single parents where the kids have flown the nest - lots in common and time to have fun and share stories!"
