Single Parent Holiday in Scotland in 2022

Discover the Scottish Highlands on a single parent group holiday based in the picturesque village of Kirn on the Cowal peninsula.  There is much to do here in August, from exploring the charming coastal town of Dunoon, to going on family walks in the magical Argyll Forest and enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Highlands and Scotland’s first national park, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs.

We have reserved a Victorian villa, a short walk from the beach in the Scottish village of Kirn on the Cowal Peninsula in the West of Scotland. Our beautiful period property, surrounded by countryside, is full of traditional warmth and charm retaining many of the original features. The property offers 10 well-appointed bedrooms, and all of our guests will have their own ensuite bathroom. There is also a large kitchen, spacious dining room with beautiful views of the golf course and countryside, and three lounges, each with a TV and either DVD player or WiFi/Netflix. Wii console, children’s toys, books and DVDs are also available. There is also a roofed terrace where our parents can enjoy an evening drink whilst the kids play in the garden and try spotting the local wildlife. Situated in a quiet residential street, just a short walk from the waterfront and shops, our villa is an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of this part of Scotland, and the wide child friendly promenade is perfect for a stroll to the neighbouring harbour town of Dunoon.

Kirn and Dunoon

We will stay at the peaceful little village of Kirn, only a short walk from the waterfront and 1.5 miles from the coastal town of Dunoon with its Victorian Pier, Dunoon castle, wide promenade, and restaurants and pubs serving local produce. Dunoon is located on the beautiful Cowal Peninsula offering great natural diversity, with towering Munros to the north and mellow scenery and sea lochs to the south. Dunoon is Cowal’s major town and home to the stunning Benmore Botanic Garden. The region offers endless opportunities for outdoor lovers, including scenic hikes, kayaking, fishing, and sailing.

The Cowal Peninsula, Argyll Forest and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs

The Cowal Peninsula is in Argyll and Bute in the west of Scotland and at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands. The north of the peninsula is covered by the Argyll Forest Park, much of which is part of the beautiful Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, Scotland’s first national park. Here you will find stunning scenery with spectacular waterfalls, enchanted forests, craggy peaks, and peaceful lochs. The forest also provides endless opportunities for outdoor and nature lovers, from hiking to watersports and mountain biking.

This is our first single parent holiday in Scotland, so we do not have any holiday reviews for this trip yet. To give you an idea of how we run our single parent breaks in the UK, we have enclosed two testimonials from our trip to the Peak District in August 2021 and our South Devon holiday in October half term 2021. For reviews from our other single parent holidays, you can also go to

"A fab holiday from start to finish. Sandra spoke to me on phone first as it was my first SPoH trip so I had some questions. Then when I got there it was so well thought out. Blackadon Farm was a great place in a beautiful setting. We loved that you could walk to the river and across the golf course to their clubhouse for yummy food. I was nervous as a single parent trying a holiday like this but Ruby was so welcoming and friendly. She really looked after us. She organised all our trips to various attractions as a group. She joined us on all the adventures and the chilled out evenings too. She got us chatting as a group and played board games with the kids in the evening so us mums could catch up over a glass of vino. We got on very well as a group. I'll be booking again."
- Emma & Alissa (6) - single parent holiday in South Devon, October half term 2021
"James and I attended the Peak District holiday in August 2021. We arrived at the same time as another family, James asked the two boys to play football and they became firm friends! The farmhouse was amazing, each bedroom was beautifully decorated, clean and modern. There was a huge kitchen where we could all eat together. There was two living rooms, which was ideal when parents wanted quiet time away from the kids. But the best part was the well-equipped games room in a separate building where James and his new friends spent many happy hours having fun.
Our holiday coordinator organised some fun trips, which we did as a whole group, group meals in the farmhouse and a local pub. Being part of such a friendly, large group of families was such fun. James and I have seen some of the families since the holiday, we are delighted to have made good friends. This is one of our favourite holidays, I cannot recommend it enough. Very well organised and fun with like-minded people. We will be doing another SPOH again for sure, we might even do this one again next year- maybe see you there!! "

- Nicole & James (9) - single parent holiday in the Peak District, August 2021
"My daughter and I had a lovely time at this converted farm. The children enjoyed playing in the game room and watching TV together. The adults hung out in the evenings either outside or in one of the reception rooms. We enjoyed the outings to the Heights of Abraham and to Chatsworth house. Will be returning if I can. Made some good friends that we will be seeing again. Ian, the host, looked after us well. "
