....One company that may have cracked the lone dad code, however, is Single Parents on Holiday. Its skiing trips to the Austrian Alps next year are already attracting many fathers, not least because prices are on par with those of the big firms. But in addition, the company offers the benefits of a small, focused group. Former Thames Ditton resident Sandra Martinz-Lywood set up the company with friend and single mum Andrea Robinson, to introduce families to the beauty of the lakes and mountains of her native Austria, and to that of top spots in Croatia and Greece. What is paramount, says Sandra, is that single parents feel comfortable. Thus there are organized activities, but families can do as much or as little as they wish. One-parent families are never going to interest the big tour groups, as children so far outnumber adults as to render this sector uneconomic. As ever in the travel industry, it is the small niche operators who are delivering the goods.
