Join us on a Single Parent Holiday
An Activity Holiday with a Difference
in the Heart of Andalusia
2 to 9 August 2014 (7 Days)
9 to 16 August 2014 (7 Days)
Join us and other single parents and their children at this intimate family hotel near the medieval town of Ronda on the edge of two national parks.
“One of the best holidays my daughter and I have ever had, great location, great hosts, loved all the excursions, great crowd of people. Safe friendly environment for children.”
Located a short drive from the historical centre of Ronda, in the heart of rural Andalusia, we have found the perfect retreat for a single parent activity holiday. We will stay in a 17th century mill, lovingly converted into a deluxe hotel, set on the edge of two national parks in the breathtaking landscape of southern Spain. The hotel is reserved almost exclusively for our single parents so you can relax in the knowledge that you and your kids are in like-minded company. The charming
The restaurant is beautifully set around an open central fireplace and features much of the original mill machinery. The chef has created an interesting international menu using only the finest of fresh local produce and seafood. Your children can choose from the kids or adult menu and will enjoy helping the chef making their own pizza in the hotel's restaurant!
We will offer a 6-day family activity programme on this holiday. You don't have to be sporty to enjoy our programme - there will be something for every age and taste. Here are some of the activities which are scheduled to be on offer:
- A day trip to Ronda with its famous bullring and gorge, Arab baths, tapas bars and shops
- Canoeing at the Zahara reservoir
- Picnic and swimming at lagoon
- Walk through the famous Cueva de la Pileta caves
- Guided hike to the Cueva del Gato lagoon
- Bird watching walk
- Horse riding
- A trip to the beach or the aqua park
- ‘Make your own pizza’ night for the kids
- Arts & Crafts
- End of week BBQ
All activities will be organised by your Single Parents on Holiday host.
Our hotel is located close to Ronda, a stunning 3000-year-old town with imposing Arabic architecture, a famous old bridge over a 120 m deep gorge and the oldest bullring of Spain. Perched high on a plateau, Ronda is Andalusia's fastest-growing town. It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views, and for the deep El Tajo gorge that carries the Rio Guadalevín through its centre. From the 18th century Puente Nuevo - 'new bridge’ - which straddles the 100m chasm below, you can enjoy an amazing view over the Serranía de Ronda Mountains. Ronda is also famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting, which can today be seen once a year at the spectacular Feria Goyesca. The bullring, Plaza de Toros, is now a museum, and visitors can walk into the arena. To ensure you can see the sites such as the bullring, stroll around the antique shops or relax in one of the many Andalusian cafes, we will organise a sightseeing day in Ronda for you.
The area also has many pre-historical caves, Roman excavation sites, lakes and endless paths for riding and hiking all of which you can take in on our day trips! The landscapes of rural Andalusia are breathtaking and one of the best ways to appreciate their diversity and beauty is on foot. Andalusia is a birdwatcher's paradise with some 13 resident raptor species, as well as several other species, which migrate here annually from Africa.

This was simply a fantastic holiday! Me and my 3 kids had great fun, a good blend of varied activities to suit all ages, time to chill, excellent company and delicious food. It completely took the stress out of organising a holiday on your own and I felt refreshed afterwards.

My 9-year-old son and I would recommend this holiday without any hesitation. He loved the independence of eating and playing with the other children (the hotel was small enough not to worry unduly/constantly about his whereabouts). I loved his independence too! It gave me a chance to have ‘grown-up’ conversations which involved a small amount of Sangria and a large amount of fun! The trips were well planned, but not over-planned so they had a relaxed feel to them, and Elaine’s attention to detail and thoughtfulness really made a difference e.g. offering to take the kids out on a pedalo whilst we were at the beach, or providing Prosecco with our picnic!
Lucinda & Dominic (9) (Ronda holiday, July 2013)
The holiday was everything I hoped it would be and more. The activities were well thought out and were a nice mix / variety. The hotel was just perfect, plus the food was truly lovely. But the main thing was the people. My daughter had an amazing time with the other children whilst I enjoyed some grown up company. But Elaine, Ian, Megan and the hotel staff essentially made the holiday extra special; nothing was ever too much trouble.
Lynn & Ffion (6) (Ronda holiday, July 2013)
We had a wonderful holiday in Spain. We were really well cared for and the accommodation and the area were idyllic. The food and the company were great. There was something very empowering about being on holiday with a very inspiring group of single mums. The children all played together and had a wonderful time. The activities were very well organised and very thoughtfully run. We were really well cared for by our hosts. Thanks for a wonderful holiday. We will definitely come again.
Alison & Daniel (5) (Ronda holiday, July 2013)
Yes, wonderful holiday, lovely hosts, great company, kids happy, and i enjoyed it too! What more can you ask?

Just back from our week in Ronda and I can’t fault it at all. This is the first single parent holiday my boys and I have been on and I was anxious about taking them abroad by myself. I needn’t have been! Everyone was so welcoming, from Helen who collected us from the airport, to Elaine and Ian our fantastic hosts to the cleaner and other staff in the hotel. I was able to completely relax with likeminded people and my boys had the time of their lives. We have all made some lifelong friends and for that I feel very lucky. My eldest is 16 and I thought this might be his last holiday with us but he is already urging me to book the next one! I will definitely be booking a holiday with SPoH again next year and we can’t wait. Thank you so much!
Amy, Jacob (16) & Reuben (10) (Ronda holiday, August 2013)
We have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Ronda. Elaine and Ian and their lovely daughter Carly made us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble! The hotel is wonderful and the food amazing and we loved the pool. We really enjoyed all of the activities, organised so brilliantly by Elaine, particularly the kayaking. We shared the week with great people which made the whole experience even better and have made some lovely friends. I can't recommend this holiday highly enough and would most definitely go back. We didn't want to come home! Thank you Elaine and Ian for a truly lovely week.
Andrea & Holly (11) (Ronda holiday, July/August 2012)
Thank you for a truly fantastic holiday – our first with SPOH – but won't be the last I'm sure! Great mix and balance of activities, wonderful family run Hotel where our warm, welcoming hosts Elaine and Ian worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a good time. Eating fantastic food Alfresco on the terrace every night after a day of experiencing something new and enjoying fun, relaxed, company of a wonderful group of like-minded single parents will be hard to beat! The boys said it was simply ‘the best holiday ever!'

Sharon & Madison (14) (Ronda holiday, August 2011)
Just a note to say how much Jennifer and I enjoyed our holiday in Ronda last week. Elaine and Ian are so welcoming and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in such a lovely setting and laid out in such a way the children were able to really have fun and both parents and children able to relax and enjoy their stay. The activities Elaine laid on in addition to the lovely food served every day/night were excellent - really good value for money.
Wendy & Jennifer (13) (Ronda holiday, August 2011)
Another great holiday with SPOH. Elaine and Ian were wonderful hosts. The food was exceptional and it was nice for the kids to run around without the worry of them upsetting any other guests. Ronda is beautiful!
Julie & Callum (11) (Ronda holiday, August 2011)
We had a fantastic holiday, perfect in every way: delightful company and amazing, delicious food. Great excursions – loved the kayaking on Lake Zahara. Elaine and Ian made us so welcome and did everything possible to ensure we had a good time. Anna said it was her best holiday ever!
Marian & Anna (10) (Ronda holiday, July/August 2011)
Fantastic holiday! Would have no hesitation in recommending. Great welcome...divine food...perfect amount of activities organised...and best of all made great new friends!
Verona, Daniel (13) & Ellen (10) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
Very enjoyable. Lovely rooms and excellent food. The children made lots of friends and enjoyed the pool. The group was very easy going, friendly and funny. Elaine and Ian went out of their way to meet our needs.
Yvonne, Amy (13) & Christie (10) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
This was my first trip with SPOH, but I chose it on recommendation that it could cater to the needs of both my sons – a difficult challenge as one is gregarious and adventurous but the other is shy and likes routine. The holiday surpassed my expectations, due to the tireless work by Elaine and Ian plus the wonderful new friends we met. Both boys had a wonderful time, and I haven’t felt so relaxed in years!
Ymogen, Bradley (13) & Ethan (8) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
When I booked the SPOH holiday I was very nervous travelling abroad with my daughter alone. I was reassured by Sandra and when I arrived Ian was waiting at the airport as promised. The hotel was so family friendly orientated I would thoroughly recommend this holiday to other single parents.
Julie & Louise (11) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
The hotel was good and the hosts were wonderful, very accommodating and kind and I would recommend them to anyone. Great food and good entertainment available.
Allison & Austin (14) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
Jack and I had a great time on this holiday. We met a really nice group of people who were all up for having fun, enjoying the culture, food and drink! Elaine and Ian were great hosts, nothing was too much trouble and we both came home feeling relaxed as well as tanned!!
Sarah & Jack (13) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
Both David and I greatly enjoyed our trip to Ronda. Ian, Elaine and family were extremely welcoming hosts and did their utmost to ensure that everyone enjoyed the holiday. A good balance of activities and free time, we would definitely go back.
Tina & David (9) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
We had a lovely time in Ronda. Elaine and Ian are very welcoming, creating a cosy family atmosphere, and the hotel itself is comfortable and charming. The activities on offer were good fun and very well organised and it was also lovely to be able to relax by the pool in the late afternoon sun. The families in the group were all great company and my daughter and I both had a super holiday.
Beccy & Lilly (8) (Ronda holiday, August 2010)
My first holiday experience with Single Parents on Holiday has been the best holiday experience my family of 2 children and myself have had. Our accommodation hosts were fabulous, the personal attention was fantastic. The organised activities were simple and good fun and we enjoyed the local area and culture. Definitely will be travelling with them in the future.
Jane, Ryan (12) and Ceri (10) (Ronda holiday, October 09)
Ian and Elaine are excellent hosts and did all they could to make our holiday a success. It was a pleasure to meet them and their family.
John & Eugénie (6) (Ronda holiday, October 09)
The holiday was everything we had been hoping for – relaxed, convivial company, good food - and nothing was too much trouble for Elaine and Ian who were extremely welcoming hosts. And the weather was glorious!
Caroline & Emily (9) (Ronda holiday, August 09)
Thanks for the lovely holiday in Ronda - it was more like staying with friends than going to a hotel as the owners – Ian and Elaine were so friendly and took so much trouble to make sure we were all having a great time. Ian drove half way across Spain in the night to pick us up as we missed our flight and continued to act as a taxi service throughout the holiday while simultaneously producing wonderful meals including turning up with picnics at various destinations where we were spending the day with Elaine. She was with us all day adjusting activities to suit our individual needs and looking after us in the way you might expect from an exceptionally good friend. Their children followed their example and were lovely friendly hosts as well as excellent translators.
Pauline, Helen (17) & Benjamin (13)
I was not sure what this holiday would bring as it was the first holiday I was going to have with my son on our own but from the moment we were met at the airport by Elaine and her two daughters, I knew that we were going to have a good time. The whole family were, throughout the week, extremely friendly and genuinely seemed to want to make sure we had a great holiday. There seemed to be just the right combination of time to relax, swim in the pool and top up your tan and activities, which were fun. Nothing was too much trouble, the food was excellent, the hotel was clean, very comfortable and friendly and Elaine was funny.
My son Archie and I felt like we had been invited by friends to come and stay with them for a week to be entertained and shown round Ronda. We had a fantastic time, we are telling everyone about it, we would love to go again and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this holiday to anyone.
Sarah & Archie (10) (Ronda Holiday, August 09)
Our holiday in Ronda was made for us by the all encompassing service offered by Ian and Elaine the hotel proprietors. SPOH have found two gems here.
Mary, Joe (21) and Simon (16) (Ronda holiday, August 09)
From the moment we were met at the airport we felt part of a ‘family’. The Hotel is such that we felt safe, we were all together with no other groups and as such felt that we could 100% relax, no need for make up or fancy clothes but 100% ability to relax and enjoy the time with our children and friends. This also rubbed off on the children who gelled from the first moment everyone got together.
Dawn & Liam (14) (Ronda holiday, August 09)
Just a quick e-mail to thank you for the great holiday in Ronda. Both Phoebe and I had a fabulous time - regardless of the weather! I enjoyed the other adult company and Phoebe enjoyed playing with the boys. Elaine, Ian and their family were great hosts and meeting a celebrity was of course the icing on the cake and has provided Phoebe with a story to recount to all of her friends - even though I don't really think she knows who he was!
Rachel & Phoebe (Ronda May 08)
Apart from holidays staying with friends, it was the best holiday I've been on as a single parent. It was exactly what I was looking for, more so in fact, and I'm really happy we came. I came away feeling like we'd made lots of friends.
